A Muslim saint in the 21th century: a man who heals people of all walks of life without the means of modern technology, but instead uses the Holy Qur’an Sharif as the source of truth (Haqq), guidance, help & knowledge with the permission of Allah the Almighty, The Most Compassionate, The Most Merciful (swt) & The Beloved of Allah – Muhammad SAW.
Before understanding the capabilities of this Wali-Allah – one must first understand his background. It is important to understand and raise some questions like: what inspired such greatness? What hardship purified this soul? What need is there in modern society for such a man? What characteristics did Allah SWT bestow within him? What did The Best of Creation distribute to him?
Shaykh Banaras Owaisi is Sufi Shaykh of the rare, established, world renowned Owaisi tareeqa. He was born on 6th Rajab 1361 (1942) in the village of Khataar Dhok Laindaa Sharif which is located in Pipli Sharif, the District of Mirpur, Tehsil, Dadyal, Azad Kashmir, Pakistan.
The Shaykh is currently 70 + years old and retired from physical work. Although his spiritual work alongside his service to help the less fortunate (fortune in every aspect) in life is very much alive. He relates how he faced many hardships throughout his life up until one day he was mesmerized with the Beloved SAW which took his life in a different direction to what he thought. Through his deep intimate, intense love of the Beloved SAW, the Shaykh was blessed with countless favours and blessings of Allah SWT that has sprung forth as a mercy to others. The Awliyah are pre-selected from birth and instilled within their destinies and hearts is the love of the Beloved SAW & Allah SWT – the taste of true Islam.
Family and lineage:
His Grandfather is known as Sain Jeeven Hussain R.A, who was also Owaisi and their Maqam is situated in Mobar Sharif in Dadyal, Azad Kashmir. The Shaykhs origins are from a Jatt- Rajput, Chaudhry tree.
Early Years of Life:
Shaykh Banaras Owaisi was born in Pakistan and spent the early year of his youth in Pakistan. He was more active in working but mainly visiting Awliyah out of love and sincerity, seeking Gnostic (internal knowledge & experience of Allah SWT).
The Shaykh relates in his own words: “I spent most of my time in Pakistan working and visiting maqams of different saints around my area. I spent a lot of time at Peer Shah Ghazi R.A shrine in Khari Sharif. I was a total lover of them & had many visions of the blessed Shaykh.”
Many previous Awliyah-Allah of previous generations have spent their lives seeking the closeness of Allah through the Waseela of the Beloved SAW and those who were close to he SAW such as Hazrat Data Ganjz Baksh R.A. Hazrat Data Saab R.A. Many Awliyah used to travel a lot, seeing different maqams of Saints which is the Sunnah of many previous Awliyah-Allah out of their sincere love, affection and attachment to those who were close to the Beloved SAW and our Creator – Allah SWT.
In the times of previous saints, they would walk and travel freely knowing with firm conviction that Allah SWT would provide for them as He SWT does with the Birds, Ants and every other living creature. The cause of their travels was for education, better prospects, spiritual elevation, spiritual purification, to revive and spread Islam, to help and cure, to save a rescue those in need and to see the resting places of people close to Prophet Muhammad SAW and Allah SWT.
The Arrival to the United Kingdom:
In the year 1962, aged just 20, the Shaykh came over to United Kingdom and lived with some members of his family in order to seek Spirituality, better living conditions, new challenges & career prospects.
The times of this period were tough, little or no Islamic resources or environment was around and the racism was very much integrated in the British doctrine however the Shaykh initiated himself in the Naqshbandi order whilst actively seeking work.
Shaykh Banaras Owaysi states “When I arrived in the UK at a very young age, I took an oath of alliance with Shaykh Alauddin Siddique. I often spent my time with them and gained a lot of spirituality in the Naqshbandi order.”
Shaykh began to work alongside family as a builder and also as a plumber. Working with ones hands and earning a living is promoted in Islam and building and working with our hands is a Sunnah of Ibrahim A.S and his Son Ism’ail A.S amongst many other Prophets.
Due to the Will of Allah SWT and economical problems, the Shaykh was once again struggling to find work and after a lengthy time he found some simple, Halal work in a warehouse as a factory worker. He worked in the warehouse for several years before he retired at the age of 60 years.
The Spiritual Journey & The meeting of the Beloved SAW:
In the year 2003, the Shaykh went onto the Islamic pilgrimage of Hajj, and relates the miraculous events that took place:
“I went to Hajj where I was constantly crying to Allah SWT and Prophet Muhammad SAW. I was in such state at times that I wasn’t even aware of myself & I was completely lost in fear and love. While I was in this state, I fell ill in Medina Sharif where I had the blessed Ziarat of Prophet Muhammad pbuh, Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddique R.A and Hazrat Umar Farooq R.A.”
“I then fell ill and I went into my hotel room, I was so ill that I was unable to get up but then at the time of darkness, my room was full of Noor and Beloved SAW come to see me and gave me reassurance & love. I was told I would be perfectly fine, although I was ordered to make seclusion once I got back into the UK.”
“When I arrived back I contacted Shyakh Allauddin Saddiqque and spoke to them about what I had been ordered. He told me to break my Bayt and to take out the order of Prophet Muhammad PBUH.”
Pathway of Owaisi:
After breaking the oath of allegiance in the Naqshbandi order, the journey of the Shaykh began. His life was about to change and take a different route to what he could imagine. He had to perform seclusion as instructed.
For those who are unaware of this should realise that seclusion (Chilla) is dangerous. The idea is to isolate oneself from the world and focus on intense, nonstop prayers. When one goes down that road many evil, unseen creatures come to try and taunt , scare, beat you in order to distract you form annihilation of the soul. The individuals inner, most darkest fears are brought forth in front of them. Screams of the unseen, voices of loved ones and evil are heard in order to withhold you from seeking the company of The Beloved SAW and Allah SWT. However, seclusion is not performed unless instructed by Allah SWT or the Beloved or ones Shaykh.
Shaykh Banaras Owaisi remained in his room to carry out the seclusion. He narrates:
"During this ordered seclusion, it was so dark but Allah SWT enabled the prayer mat and my Tasbih (Prayer beads) to be shining with light in order for concentration.”
“When praying, I reached such a state that I was reciting the whole Qur'an in minutes, using Tai`al Lisan. I was seeing Visions after visions, each vision taking me from one state to another until I was completely annihilated (Fana)."
This shows Trials and tribulations purify souls as does being ill and one must go through them in order to seek closeness to Allah SWT and Muhammad SAW
The Shaykh Further states “During my seclusion I was going through stages – at each stage there was a new challenge or a barrier to which I to overcome. I was tested from every aspect and within each stage there was a Helper to aid me to progress through that stage and test onto the next stage and the next test. The helper at each stage was either a Wali / Ambiyah - Prophet A.S or A Khalifa of the Beloved SAW.”
During these visions the Shaykh had met; Hazrat Ali Hajveri R.A, Khawaj Gharib Nawaz R.A, his own Grandfather R.A, Hazrat Shah Ghazi R.A, Hazrat Mohi ud Din Ghaznavi R.A , Hazrat Khidr A.S, Hazrat Abdul Qadir Jilani R.A, Imaam Hassan R.A, Imaam Hussain R.A, Hazrat Ali (The Lion of Allah SWT) R.A, Hazrat Uthman (Whom Angels had modesty of) R.A, Hazrat Umar (the one Shaytaan runs from) R.A, Hazrat Abu Bakr Sadiq (As-Sadiqque-The verifier of truth) R.A.
Initiation of Owaisi Tareeqa:
Upon completion of the last stage and final challenge was where the Shaykh was granted the Bayt with Prophet Muhammad PBUH, bringing them into the Nisbat of Owaisi.
Shaykh Banaras Uwaysi narrates “I had taken bayt with all the prophets, including Hazrat Khidr A.S, Hazrat Abdul Qadir Jilani R.A, Hazrat Ali R.A, Hazrat Uthman R.A, Hazrat Umar R.A, Hazrat Abu Bakr Sadiq R.A and Prophet Muhammad SAW. I was stamped with the seals of all Prophets and by the other blessed personalities (above) who took me to many different realities.”
Some Karamats Prior to Wilayat:
Between 2003 and 2013 a period of 13 years, the awareness of the Shaykh increased with the Will of Allah SWT and his Beloved SAW. He has been healing people from all over the globe via going abroad such to places such as Kosovo, Cyprus, Even in the blessed City of the Beloved SAW. Further people were healed through publicity gained through internet, telephone or word of mouth.
Some individuals became mureeds because of the instant relief of a variety of problems and some through pre-Wilayat karamats of the Shaykh such as:
Some individuals – prior to being mureeds – state they had encounters with the Shaykh within dreams or face to face where the Shaykh previously helped them, smiled, or spoke to them however that is impossible to comprehend as at the time to which these people saw the Shaykh was before he came to become a Wali-Allah.
The Shaykh did not know or expect to receive these blessings. The encounters of people prior to the Shaykh being a Shaykh shows the maqaam (status) of the Wali-Allah and shows Allah SWT is always in control and guides who he wishes and leaves astray who he wishes.
Gifts Gained from Allah SWT & distributed by Beloved SAW:
The Shaykh was firstly awarded “Ilm-e-Ludni” (Knowledge which was given to Prophet Hazrat Musa Alaihis-salaam by Hazrat Khwaja Khizar Alaihis-salaam as per Quran).
Secondly Allah SWT taught and placed the Syriac /Suryani language on the tongue of the Shaykh. The Shaykh himself says he has no knowledge of the Syriac or Suriyani language itself. Although the was awarded a gift of ‘Bismillah Sharif’ upon which when the Shaykh recites those words and thinks about the language it allows the Shaykh to read / recite the Suryani language and it was gifted to him by Allah SWT and the Waseela of Nabi Muhammad SAW.
The Shaykh is able to write – with the Help of Allah SWT & The Beloved SAW anything from incantations (Ruqya / Taweez) to verses (Ayaats). The pen would automatically start writing if the Shaykh recites Bimillah and if the Shaykh has a pen in his possession.
Thirdly Tai`al Lisan was gifted to the Shaykh from Hazrat Ali R.A where they able to recite the whole Holy Qu’ran in minutes:
Hazrat Ali (RA) was able to recite the whole Quran in the same space of time that it took for a horse to put the first hoof/feet on the ground to the following /second one. i.e. one step of a horse.

Fourthly, the Shaykh was gifted the ability to communicate with the unseen creatures from Prophet Suilman A.S. This also includes the ability to deal with possession black magic and other sorts of problems related to the unseen.
Fifthly, the Shaykh has been given Al-Buraq as gift to aid those in need whether it is other Awliyah-Allah (having trouble with unseen creatures), Mureeds – both Human and unseen mureeds or the Ummah of the Beloved SAW.
On many occasions the Beloved of Allah SWT has accompanied the Blessed Shaykh on the Al Buraq – The Beloved of Allah SWT sitting in front the Shaykh sitting behind he SAW – and have travelled many places through the spiritual realm. This Bond between the Shaykh & The Beloved SAW is similar of one to a Shaykh and a Mureed. This deep love is something that will continue to grow and help the masses which may be initiated to the Owaisi Link.
Over the years Shaykh Banaras Owaisi has been ordered to go into many more seclusions and meditations where he was blessed with visions after visions and was rewarded with gifts. The visions are referred to as Muraqaba (which of many can be seen and read about on this site).
The Shaykhs personal comments and sayings:
The Shaykhs life was transformed and didn’t realize that the deep sense of love of the Beloved SAW would take his life to stages beyond what he thought was possible for him.
“I am trying to do as much as I can so – perhaps / InshAllah – Allah SWT gets pleased with me”
‘I am nothing’ & ‘I don’t know what Allah SWT & The Beloved SAW have seen in me’.
The Shaykh further comments and says:
“I have no Ilm – knowledge (via books etc) – as all the knowledge I have is given to me and is not my own (hidden-transmitted).”
It is not a necessity to have Ilm (from books) to be loved by Allah SWT. The Beloved SAW was give The Holy Qur’an but he himself was an embodiment of the The Holy Qur’an. The Ilm of the Beloved SAW was hidden and instilled within him.
Similarly this was the case of Shaykh Banaras Owaisi. A soul which carries truth and holds on to it (unaware) even though apparent laws state it is almost impossible is a miracle itself. Allah SWT and Nabi Muhammad SAW ordained that Islam is to be within him, deep within his heart and emotions so it would act as a sign for generations to come.
“I am nothing – the Karamats are from Allah SWT through the Waseela and love of the Beloved SAW”
“I am a Shohada (Martyr)”
The Shaykh also refers to himself on many occasions as a ‘Martyr’ which was a title given to him by the Beloved SAW. The following explains his title:
“One instance I was in Pakistan and I attended a gathering late in the evening and there was food presented before everyone after the event. I had not eaten all day and I wished to eat. Although when I ate something my stomach began to hurt and I realized I had not asked permission to eat. I then asked Allah SWT if I was able to eat however the response was ‘No’ although I thought to myself that it would look bad if I turned away food from a gathering but Allah SWT knows best. I then went back home after the gathering and was still unable to eat as Allah SWT did not permit me to”.
That is one of many examples to why the term ‘Martyr’ has been given to Shaykh Banaras Owaisi, not for Ilm (knowledge), but for the continuous connection, submission & trust in Allah SWT.
Allah SWT & The Beloved SAW know best to why the Shaykh was selected for such blessings and with such gifts although we (the mureeds and some non-mureeds alike) are awaiting the outcome of the coming of the Shaykh and this Owaisi Silsila.
Shaykh Banaras Owaisi is a gift to the Ummah from Rehmat-Ul-Alimeen (the Mercy to the Worlds) Muhammad SAW to modern generation. Curing those who are ill – mentally, physically, spiritually with the aid of Allah SWT and Muhammad SAW. The Shaykh is Guiding & relating to those facing hardship, trials and tribulations. Sheltering those from harm & acting as a grandfather, father, uncle and brother figure to those needing it.
He is able to relate to every situation, try to help all who seek his assistance because of the Sunnah of the Beloved SAW. The Shaykh is a Lover of the Holy Qur’an, The Sunnah, The Ahle-Bait, The Lover of the Khalifa-Rashideen & the Lover of Allah SWT.
This is also the way that the Shaykh has also come about through necessity at a time which Allah SWT thought best and at a time where his works are most in need.
Mureeds had seen him years before as Allah SWT told people of the coming of Ahmad SAW to the previous generations and the world waited in anticipation – similarly Allah SWT placed a space for the Shaykh at the correct time to heal, help & guide those who are previously in his need.
He is the point to which the Mercy of Allah SWT – The Beloved SAW has come from.
